MARGRETTE ANN TAYLOR (MAT) SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The MAT Scholarship Fund was established in honor of one of the distinguished members of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Triumphant Soror Margrette Ann Taylor.   Soror Taylor was an outstanding National Labor Relations Attorney for the federal government who passed away on September 6, 2000.

Soror Taylor was an alumnus of Benton Harbor High School located in Benton Harbor, Michigan.  She received her bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, MI) and her Juris Doctorate from Wayne State University (Detroit, MI).

Soror Taylor was an advocate for social justice; and a leader in both the Washtenaw County Bar Association and the National Bar Association.

Soror Taylor was instrumental in the chartering of the Rho Delta Zeta Chapter.   Her mission and vision for this chapter has strengthened over the years. The Sorors of Rho Delta Zeta are grateful for Soror Taylor’s vision and her service.  In addition to being a charter member of Rho Delta Zeta,  Soror Taylor also served as the chapter's first President.

This scholarship was established in Soror Taylor's honor as an extension of her dedication to the community and education.   The purpose of this scholarship is to financially assist deserving African American female high school students in furthering their education so that they can ultimately make a difference in their respective communities.

Each year, a scholarship is awarded to a female student from Ypsilanti and Benton Harbor.    To date,  over $24,000 in scholarships have been awarded in Soror Taylor's honor.
